Premium Pine bark growing medium
The production takes place through thermophylic composting. Fresh bark is milled into a specific size, urea and water is added, and then this mixture is placed in long windrows. Temperatures are regularly monitored, and when the heap reaches 70 deg C, it is turned and aerated for the heat build-up to start again. This process repeats itself three times during a four month period.
A testing room on site allows us to monitor PH, EC, and TDS for our traceability reports. Once the product is stable with little variation in temperature, it is screened or blended and released for despatching.
Mattgrow only uses quality composted pine bark, which forms the basis for many of our specialised blends.
Composted pine bark is screened to sizes of 8mm, 4mm and 3mm. The screened product is blended with a selection of different additives according to the crop requirement – vermiculite, perlite, cocopith, peat, slow release fertilizers, and wetting agents.
Crops : Cabbage, Spinach, radish, lettuce, microgreens, tobacco, tomato’s
Additives blend with substrate
Perlite
Perlite provides aeration and improves water drainage in any potting medium. The surface area od perlite particles are covered with tiny cavities that hold moisture while the particles themselves create tunnels in the mixture that allow air and water to flow freely through the roots.
Vermiculite
Vermiculite has the benefits of improving soil aeration while retaining moisture and nutrients to feed roots, cuttings and seeds for faster, maximum growth.

Slow release fertilisers or Controlled release fertilisers
These are coated with a plastic rescin or polymer, which slowly breaks down from water, heat, sunlight and soil microbes. It releases a small, steady amount of nutrients over a period of time. Using SRF or CRF eliminates the risk of fertilizer burn while staying in the soil for a longer period of time

The Coir block goes through an expanding process with RO water, then treated and buffered to a top quality Coir product with an average PH of 6.5 and EC 0.5
